Steel Industry Glossary
- Cupro-Nickel
- Copper-nickel alloys, principally 90/10 (C70600) and 70/30 (C71500), used for seawater and condenser service.
- DHP Copper
- C12200, phosphorus deoxidised high residual phosphorus copper — the plumbing and refrigeration tube grade.
- Dezincification
- Selective leaching of zinc out of brass, leaving a porous copper skeleton with almost no strength.
- ETP Copper
- Electrolytic tough pitch copper, C11000 — 99.90% copper with a trace of oxygen, the default busbar and sheet grade.
- Erosion Corrosion
- Metal loss where flow velocity strips the protective film faster than it can reform, usually at bends and inlets.
- Free Cutting Brass
- C36000 / CuZn39Pb3 — the 100% machinability reference, with about 3% lead to break the chip.
- IACS
- International Annealed Copper Standard — the conductivity benchmark where pure annealed copper at 20 °C equals 100%.
- Oxygen-Free Copper
- C10200 and C10100 — copper melted and cast under a protective atmosphere so oxygen stays below 10 ppm.
- Season Cracking
- Stress corrosion cracking of brass in ammonia-bearing air, driven by residual forming stress.
- Temper
- The condition of a copper product set by cold work and annealing — annealed, quarter hard, half hard, hard or spring.
