Cupro-Nickel
Copper-nickel alloys, principally 90/10 (C70600) and 70/30 (C71500), used for seawater and condenser service.
Nickel plus a controlled iron addition produces a tenacious, self-repairing oxide film on which seawater resistance depends. The film takes two to three months of clean, flowing seawater to mature, which is why commissioning procedure matters as much as the alloy: sulphide-bearing or stagnant water during that window permanently damages it. 90/10 is rated to about 2.5 m/s; 70/30 takes 3.5 to 4.5 m/s and higher temperature.
